Sean Scott's background
is in industrial design and the arts. He received a B.A. in Industrial
Design from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Since graduating,
he has worked in several areas of the design industry, and is now
exploring his passion for furniture design.
For seven years, Sean was the Design Director for the
Chicago-based design firm, Niedermaier. Sean was able to fully explore
many aspects of design at Niedermaier, including furniture, visual
display, store fixtures, interior design and graphic design. In January
2003, Sean left Niedermaier to focus his efforts on s2design,
his own design firm. s2design specializes
in design, consultation and production of custom furniture and lighting,
as well as visual display, for residential and commercial environments.
Sean’s influences come from the great designers and architects
of the 20th century. “Some of the greatest works from that era
are timeless and can still fit in the most modern of settings. To
me, that is the ultimate goal to strive for. As a designer, it is
my job to create elements that will carry us into the next millenium.”
The pieces currently available in Sean’s collection incorporate
these ideas. They utilize a wide variety of mediums, including wood,
metal, glass, Corian‘ and lucite. Sean is also exploring various
aspects of sustainable design and production for current and future
pieces.
Noteworthy projects & accomplishments:
- The design and development of numerous successful furniture collections
for Niedermaier’s extensive product line.
- Designed all of the fiberglass furniture components for the 2001
