The (isla) coffee table was an exercise in emulating minimalism in architecture. Simple lines in a rectilinear plane and overstated scale in length give the (isla) its drama. Using natural materials in their purest state add to the minimal statement. Isla is “island” in Spanish. The name was derived from the thin strip of stainless steel that divides the two solid planks of maple that make up the surface of the table.
